Selene, the Greek goddess of the Moon, was the daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia and the sister of Helios and Eos. Often portrayed with a crescent moon adorning her head, she symbolized the serene and gentle light of the night. Selene is famously known for her love affair with the mortal Endymion, whom she visited every night as he lay in eternal sleep.
