I love to paint Ancient Egyptian inspired art, be it close to actual Egyptian looking models or more freely interpreted ones like this portrait! Painting these intricate patterns with metallic watercolors is so satisfiying - even though it takes some patience - but the result is always worth it!
For this painting I used gouache, watercolors and color pencils and taped the borders of my paper to achieve a finished look. This way the watercolor painting is easy to frame and gets a qallery-like quality. I titled the finished artwork “Nekhbet”, after an Ancient Egyptian Goddess of the heavens. (Ancient Mythology is an absolute favourite of mine - in case you couldn’t tell! 😝)
Each month my patrons get new painting videos from me showcasing my newest artworks - and this watercolor and mixed media painting is one of them! Although this process video is without a voiceover it shows two hours of the process, showing you how I painted the face (including the color pencil process), parts of her jewelry, hair and background.
If you like to know how to layer watercolors to create a realistic depiction of skin, you can paint along with me …. and show me your finished pieces on Patreon or Social Media! 😊
Of course, as always patreon supporters get an overview over my full material list, a sketch to download and print out and my reference photo as well! 😊
